BCCCPA

Our "Charity of Choice" for Escape 2010 is the
British Columbia Childhood Cancer Parents' Association

The British Columbia Childhood Cancer Partents' Association (BCCCPA) is a group of parents that have had a child with cancer, have a child in active treatment, or are bereaved.

The BCCCPA raises funds which are provided as monetary “Gifts” to families of a child with cancer and who are struggling financially. The funds raised are dispersed by the social workers at Children's Hospital and at Surrey Memorial Hospital's Paediatric Oncology ward who know and understand the plight of each family's situation.

When a child is stricken with cancer, one parent has to quit their job to provide the constant care the child needs. Treatment times of 1½ to 3 years or more is common. Some essential items are not covered by any medical divisions – and that may include some of the very necessary drugs related to treatment. Some extended health programs only cover a portion of extra medical costs, some programs do not, and beware the self-employed who have no extended health coverage, or a single mother who now cannot work at all. Imagine if this was your child. One of our Directors has a close friend who's son had battled cancer for over 6½ years and unfortunately lost that battle in December of 2008.

The BCCCPA's Gifts help support children with cancer and their families, from all corners of the Province.

We thank you all for supporting such a worthwhile cause and invite you to view their website at:
